Please stop posting racist bullshit on Facebook

If you really thought about it, you’d know it was bullshit. You’re not stupid. You’re not even racist. For some reason you actually thought everyone would go “Oh my good God you’re so right” – LIKE. Well au contraire.

It seems there have been a few themes on Facebook in 2013. The first is the continuation of make your own meme. I was guilty of using one for my last the blog, the ridiculously popular 113 Day Of Sobriety. But it served a purpose and people knew the little pink lady meant it was a new blog. Then there’s the grumpy cat. I love cats so bring them on. Dogs just don’t meme well. Tesco horse meat jokes. Bloody hilarious. For 24 hours. Please stop already.

There is also a far darker trend. Racist bullshit. Some may disagree with me here. In this case, I don’t think you have any right to this opinion and need a massive re-education. It’s not cool to post things like this:

But why? Some of you may think it’s right on the money. Let me begin to tear your argument apart.

Before I begin, I may not cover everything. I am not educated in the ins and outs of contemporary racial issues, it’s not something I especially preach. I have made jokes in the past about race, I don’t have a huge amount of non white friends, in fact I have few credentials to be writing about this, but I know where wars start and know what I think is wrong. Also as a gay man, with a long foreign name and a recent family history of immigration, I have a small idea what it’s like to be the victim of small minded bigotry.

First of all, it’s quite likely that everything in the above picture is complete and utter bullshit. It’s quite likely the source of that picture is from a UKIP/ BNP/ EDL member. It’s been shared so much we have no idea where it came from. But it is nothing more than hateful propaganda. It’s the drip drop of hateful ideas made to convince those susceptible to being outraged, that it’s true.

Where is the evidence? There’s not even a link to a half baked Daily Mail story to back it up. It’s pictures and words. Meaningless garbage. The fact they’re juxtaposed next to one another, is meant to give the impression they are directly related. They are not.

So let’s pretend it’s real. Let’s dissect. First up the whiter than white British heroes. Oh yes  our boys fighting our corner. I have got into trouble before for slating our armed forces and more’s the issue the charity Help For Heroes. So I’ll choose my words carefully.

If they were doing their jobs properly, probably each of those men is a killer. They have probably slain someone’s son/ husband/ wife/ daughter etc. That is their job. They chose that job. Let’s not over-bake the pudding of credit here. They weren’t forced, they didn’t do it out of love. They were paid. Career choice.

A massively unreported issue with regards to the British Army is aftercare. I have personal experience with this. Some of these guys have no trouble at all. See James Blunt, the luckiest rhyming slang in this country. However leaving the regimented life of the army into a world of non-secure non regimented work can cause huge issues. Alcoholism, drug addiction, unemployment, homelessness can all result. Not to even begin on the lingering mental damage. I live in an army town and had a long term relationship with a former soldier. This isn’t born from wild left-wing ideas about the army. I’ve seen this shit first hand.

The above picture implies, due to the genius juxtapositioning that Muslim immigration has caused this. It has not. Muslim immigration does not cause soldiers to become homeless. Soldiers and their experiences cause soldiers to become homeless. If you can find me evidence that a Muslim living in a big house has made one of our heroes homeless I will personally seek to rectify the situation.

Ironically it’s the work of said soldiers that may well cause Muslim immigration. In fact centuries of the good old British taking over the world and invading countries, because of our bizarre need to constantly show our military might, like the thug in a pub or a playground… that’s what has not just caused, but directly allowed Muslim and indeed all kinds of immigration into the UK.

We have a pretty open door policy, like it or not. The UK is built on immigration. The jolly black nurse and the Polish plumber are just as much a part of my UK as any soldier in a silly hat you care to throw at me.

First of all, the benefits issue. Why pick on the Muslims? There are thousands, nay millions of British born non Muslim (let’s not even pretend Christianity is thriving in 2013), who rip off the state for thousands of pounds a year, as an alternative to working. All kinds of baby making machines, who only own that 42″ TV because they put out and popped  half a dozen or more babies out. I’m not slating benefits, it’s a necessity when shit goes wrong. But come on, let’s not pretend it a race thing. Even a Tory government can’t force women to stop having babies or deny them the basic means to live.

As for the 2 million pound houses. Well I’d like to see the receipts. As I said before it’s quite likely to be streaming bullshit. So sue me if it’s true. This is my blog.

All that picture and all the other similarly, risible propaganda do is spread hate that need not exist. They’re provocative, despite not having a bit of truth. Sure some times some Muslims do bad things that are jolly un-British. Sometimes life isn’t fair to Corporal Jones and Sergeant Smith. Let’s not pretend the two have any correlation.

I know some people have issues with the amount of immigration into the UK. Without a lot of it, the UK would culturally be a much poorer place. I do agree it needs addressing to an extent. If you want to live in the UK, make the effort and learn the language. It really helps. And don’t blow shit up either. Otherwise welcome. I hope you do a better job than me.

You’re all entitled to your stupid racist opinions. But let’s not needlessly start hating on my Facebook wall. I go to Facebook to see cat pictures and stalk exes, not see EDL propaganda.
